Abstract of the talk

Amongst the key challenges facing a teacher of English are:

  • Making learning enjoyable
  • Setting the language in a cultural context
  • Ensuring there is a logical progression
  • Providing enough practice
  • Combining the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing.
  • Allowing learners of different abilities to work at their own pace
  • Dealing with grammar without turning learners off
  • Ensuring that language once learned is recycled
  • Providing for assessment

Taking examples from levels 1, 2 and 3 of Little Bridge, Paul Rogers will show how the course effectively addresses each of these issues and how Little Bridge:

  • can build a bridge between the learner and the English speaking world, setting the language in context through 3D animations and virtual reality.
  • can build a bridge between traditional teaching methods and the latest computer technology, integrating both in a structured yet flexible teaching progression.
  • can bridge the gap between work and play by making learning fun through a wide variety of motivating games and activity types.
  • can build a bridge between home and school by providing activities that children will do for pleasure, thus consolidating what they have learned in class and gaining invaluable extra practice to make it stick!
